Join Boise State University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts candidates as they celebrate Resound, their thesis exhibition. Utilizing an impressive range of mediums, including large-scale installation, printmaking, illustration, and painting, Resound addresses themes of community, history, and identity. Meet the artists and enjoy refreshments during the opening reception on Friday, November 13th from 6-8pm.

Artists Include: Gwendolyn Downs, Deb Jones Yensen, Kathrine Jones, Le Schrock, Kristi Marshall, Marissa Nobody, Erin R. Phillips, Sarah Rapatz, Jacob Rowe, Suzanne Tornow, and Jin You.

This exhibition showcases the diversity of recent work by the faculty members of the Boise State University Art Department. The show features 25 artists working in a wide range of media including ceramics, metals, sculpture, painting and drawing, printmaking, installation, photography, and graphic design.

Please join us for the biennial faculty show, which kicks off the Visual Arts Center’s season of exhibitions. Artists will be in attendance at an opening reception September 4th, 2009 6-8pm and the show continues through October 23rd, 2009.

Discover a unique gift for Mom or anyone else on your list at our semi-annual Clay and Fire Exhibit and Sale, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, May 9, 10, and 11 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day in the Visual Arts Center, Gallery 1, located in the Liberal Arts Building.

Held each spring and fall for over 35 years, the event has become an annual tradition for many in the Treasure Valley. It features hundreds of high-quality ceramic pieces, ranging from elegant to exotic, made by Boise State students, faculty, and alumni to fit nearly everyone’s décor and budget. A portion of the proceeds benefits Boise State’s Visiting Artists in Ceramics program, which brings world-class artists to campus to teach students.

Opening Reception: Friday March 6th 6 – 8 P.M.

A new series of work by Amanda Hamilton will be on display at the Visual Arts Center starting March 2nd, 2009. The artist has reconstructed a four by five foot scale model landscape and created a short film and film stills of the model. The work is based on the phenomena of the disappearance of White Lake (Bolotnikovo, Russia) in May 2005. Amanda Hamilton is the Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

Reflex: 2009 Juried Student Art Show

The annual juried student art show will be held March 6th-March 20th, 2009 at Visual Arts Center Gallery One located in the Liberal Arts Building. All students currently enrolled in classes offered by the Art Department are encouraged to apply. This year’s juror is Angie Zielinski, Assistant Professor of Art at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID.

Recent Drawings and a New Installation by Angie Zielinski

Visual Arts Center Gallery 2 – Hemingway Western Studies Center

January 20th-February 17th, 2009

Opening Reception – January 30th, 2009 6pm-8pm

Angie Zielinski is a cross-disciplinary artist, pulling from the influence of abstraction while exploring the possibilities of installation. She received a B.F.A. from Millikin University in Illinois and an M.F.A. from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Zielinski’s work has been shown nationally in juried and solo exhibitions. In 2007, she took a position as Assistant Professor of Art at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.

Her current work investigates events that can be interpreted as celebratory or violent, depending on personal and cultural beliefs. Circuses, fireworks, patriotic parties and bomb zones are made up of complex inter-working systems; moments of fragility, stability, danger and awe are visible in each. Through the manipulation of materials and attention to intimate details, Zielinski explores specific aspects of these events and actions.
